Last week Eagles Coach Andy Reid appeared on a Philly Sports Talk Morning Show and once again he proved why he is the master at saying many words yet having no meaning or substance to them.
Some highlights or lowlights, depending on how you look at it:
- I know this will shock all Eagles fans but Reid thinks his receiving corps, which includes rookie DeSean Jackson, are just fine thank you very much. And that it's his job to put them in the best position to make plays. Man, if we all had a dime for every time we heard that phrase...
- When asked if he and the Eagles Front Office had enough urgency to win now, Reid emphatically stated "We're not waiting a year. We're going to win right now."
- Asked about trading out of the 1st Round (again), Reid referred to the package they received from the Panthers, intimating there was no way they could turn down such a great offer.
They (the Eagles) think they're good enough to win right now. The fans do not.
They (the Eagles) don't give a you-know-what about what the fans or the media thinks.
You know pitching in major league baseball is such commodity when a journeyman, scrub-at-best marginal talent hack like Nelson Figueroa can go off an opposing team just for the way they cheered and live to tell about it.
In case you missed this, following Mets' 10-4 loss Monday night at Shea to the Nationals, Figueroa ripped the Nats for displaying the temerity and audacity to actually show some emotion during the game.
"They were cheerleading in the dugout like a bunch of softball girls," Figueroa said. "I'm a professional, just like anybody else. I take huge offense to that. If that's what a last-place team needs to do to fire themselves up, so be it. I think you need to show a little bit more class, a little bit more professionalism. They won tonight, but again, in the long run, they are who they are."
'I'm a professional.' Well that's up for debate Nellie, especially when considering you were out of baseball altogether the past 3 years (some due to rehab, some not) and that you are the proud owner of a 9-20 record and 4.71 ERA.When exactly did it become taboo for professional athletes to display human emotion?
Nelson Figueroa? Are you kidding me? He should be thanking his lucky stars each and every time he walks onto a diamond that he lives in a time when there is such a dearth of pitching, for if there were not, you can be damn sure the closest Nelson Figueroa would get to a ballpark is by peddling hot dogs and sodas.
What a joke.
Hey Nelson, this just in... this ain't golf! It's baseball. And there's cheering in baseball and apparently there IS in fact crying, too.
I work for an ad agency and the subject of trademarking constantly rears its head as we continually need to check the trademarking of a name or slogan or tagline, etc., else risk legal ramifications and/or risk major embarrassment.
Here is a classic example the latter.
Seems the GOP (Republican Party) wanted a new slogan, something that
will counter the Democratic push for change from the years of the Bush administration with their own pledge to deliver.
What they came up with was:
"The change you deserve."
Which in it of itself is ok except... Oops.
Seems this particular slogan is already trademarked.
And what company/product you ask has this slogan in use already?
"The change you deserve." is the registered advertising slogan of Effexor XR.
What is Effexor XR you ask?
It is a drug approved for the treatment "of depression, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and panic disorder in adults."
Yeah, you read right. But it gets better.
Its common side effects are very much in keeping with the world the House Republicans have striven to build: nausea, apathy, constipation, fatigue, vertigo, sexual dysfunction, sweating, memory loss, and - and I swear I am not making this up - "electric shock-like sensations also called 'brain zaps.'"
So the next time we need to do a trademark search, perhaps we should remember these words to the wise, or in this case, inept.
